HRDD in Action: Tackling Forced Labour now available in the HRDD Academy
By Gemma Giammattei, Learning Coordinator and Human Rights and Business Advisor at Fair Wear
We are pleased to announce the launch of HRDD in Action: Tackling Forced Labour, the third and final module in the HRDD Academy’s Forced Labour learning journey.
Developed by Fair Wear, the learning journey consists of three modules designed to support learners in strengthening their approach to forced labour through Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD).
This learning programme was developed by Fair Wear and is the initiative of the parties of the Pact for sustainable garments, textiles and footwear: INretail, Modint, CNV Internationaal, Mondiaal FNV and FNV. The Pact is facilitated by the Social Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER) with input from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Apply HRDD to forced labour risks
The new module focuses on the practical application of Human Rights Due Diligence. It explores how companies can identify, prevent, mitigate, remediate, track and communicate forced labour risks in practice, including in light of the EU Forced Labour Regulation.
By completing the module, participants will learn how to:
Apply HRDD to forced labour risks in their company’s own operations, subsidiaries and supply chain.
Use practical tools and examples from peer companies to guide decision-making.
What does the module cover?
The module is structured around key steps of the HRDD process for tackling forced labour.
Step 1: Learners are introduced to practical approaches for embedding forced labour considerations into HRDD policies and governance.
Step 2: They learn how to identify and assess forced labour risks across sectors, regions, products, worker groups and practices.
Step 3: Taking action to prevent and mitigate forced labour risks, including using leverage, addressing root causes and preventing harm from occurring or recurring.
Step 4: Tracking and assessing the effectiveness of actions taken
Step 5: Communicating effectively and credibly about forced labour risks, actions, violations and remediation across operations and supply chains.
Step 6: Understanding when and how to remediate forced labour cases, including engaging responsibly with affected workers to help ensure their rights are restored.
Stakeholder engagement: Exploring who to engage, how to create safe and inclusive dialogue, and where stakeholder input can strengthen each step of the HRDD process.
